Forked project: KEXImage & KEXTargetIntro:Store data in an Image file!KEXImage is a block of disk storage, is groupped as an image file, which can be used to host a filesystem, can be extractable via Linux loop device (pseudo-device) like an ordinary data volume to save files, folders insideSparse File, the critical factor caused storage capcity waste in any IT company. while a filesystem can be easily cleaned up unused data, can be shrinked for unallocated space, the size of virtual hard disk for a virtual machine can not be reclaimed after it is allocated in total capacity of the physical server. E.g: You have a 100 GB virtual disk assigned to a Windows VM as a volume, is formated with NTFS filesystem. You can use the volume in the limitation of 100 GB (Shrinking, partitioning, cleaning up unused data,..). In case you need more capacity, you can increase the volume size by sizing up the virtual hard disk, it is easy. But in reverse, when you store only 80 GB of data, you will alsways have 20 GB of data fixed stay free/unallocated in the virtual machine because the virtual disk already contains sparse data in the Hypervisor datastore and can not be reduced in size. You can not move that 20 GB eslewhere for other usage. Then you have already unofficial "waste" 20 GB!As an image file, KEXImage is designed with mechanism to solve the sparse data metioned above. KEXImage can be fixed to contain only meaningful data, reducing the image total capacityTotal storage capcity of the company now can be managed flexibily, can be sized up and sized down base on the actual volume of company operationKEXTarget is a wide distribution form of KEXImage to storage consumer to have a Storage Network as a Service model, with iSCSI as a core system communication protocol KEXTarget transform a normal storage into data containers as images. The image can be used distributed to storage consumer ( A virtual machine for example ) to format as a a filesystem block as usual
