As a Summer Caseworker at CLS, I gained practical legal skills by representing real clients and appearing in court. I carried a mix of files (8-10) that included criminal law and family law matters. By providing these legal services, I received valuable training in practical lawyering skills, including client interviewing, document drafting, file and client management, negotiation, as well as court and tribunal appearances such as remands, motions, pre-trials, guilty pleas, and trials. Working at CLS during the summer not only gave me invaluable experience but also allowed me to give back to the community by helping those who would not otherwise be able to afford a lawyer.
