Procurement Masters Summer Intern

I was chosen as one of four Masters students to join the Bayer US Procurement Masters Leadership Development Program. There I aggressively pursued internal consulting roles within Bayer’s global (1500 personnel) Procurement Department. During the internship I had free reign to interview any personnel (achieved 60+) including up to the executive level. I completed 13 projects in 10 weeks, ranging from project management to internal auditing to design and development (product management) of a machine learning internal chatbot project. Among these projects there are a few I would like to highlight. I obtained ownership of a category strategy research project investigating an issue related to contract manufacturing of consumer products at the global level and then presented my research report to senior level staff. I also achieved a project management role for a software system development project. There I designed the system, identified needed requirements, developed a budget, engaged relevant teams, and negotiated with developers, where I saved 10% of the value of the contract for Bayer. Additionally I prevented an imminent supply stockout by identifying and analyzing raw material suppliers, thereby saving an undisclosed amount of money and establishing a new supplier partnership for Bayer. Finally, I identified an information sharing gap within the organization. I developed, championed and launched a solution in the form of a speaker series, a process that took all 10 weeks and dozens of interviews and design sessions. My first event featured a VP level speaker and 50+ guests. There were many more lessons, opportunities and achievements that occurred over the course of this internship, more than I could record here. This program accelerated my career and personal growth faster than I knew was possible.
