RxSight is a medical device company developing a post-implantation, UV-light-adjustable intra-ocular lens (IOL). The optical power of the implanted IOL is adjusted using RxSight’s Light Delivery Device (LDD), which produces UV light of a specific and customizable spatial profile and power, depending on IOL power change desired. Expected FDA approval is in late-2017. Product Development Engineer • Successfully managed the testing of the LDD to IEC 60601-1:2005 and ISO 15004-1 standards, including electrical and mechanical safety, risk management, EMC, and environmental/storage/transportation conditions, in support of both FDA Pre-Market Approval (PMA) and Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) submissions. • Wrote and executed verification and validation protocols to satisfy IEC 62366 usability standard for LDD, Light Adjustable Lens, and Insertion Device• Managed and published risk assessment of RxSight Products. Extensive risk management experience under ISO 14971 Risk Management for Medical Devices• Defined requirements, submitted statements of work, and managed multiple vendors in the development of a prototype eye tracker system.

From Dec 2008 to Feb 2010, managed a $4M project to develop a complex laser-based medical device. Developed and managed project schedule across all disciplines – fluidics, optics, industrial design, injection molding, machined & sheet metal designers, digital and analog electronics, software (including GUI design, middleware, application level and firmware), testing and release to manufacturing. Directed an internal team of engineers, several subcontractors, and customer scientists to meet aggressive schedule with limited resources.

Managed the testing and release of new products for the group’s robotic wafer handling system, including a new loadport and optical pre-aligner. Gathered and analyzed data, resolved issues discovered during testing, communicated requirements to design team, managed the technical development of the product, and worked with multiple vendors to resolve issues. Responded to division escalations – worked with internal customers to help them resolve issues with the wafer handler system. Included travel to Israel to respond to customer escalations. • Technical leader in the development of a CCD-based star-tracker system for the US Air Force. Researched image sensor theory of operation, documented requirements, and communicated requirements to electrical, firmware (VHDL) and mechanical designers. Tested prototype design, worked closely with electrical engineering and firmware designers to meet performance requirements by solving technical issues. Presented results to and took direction from program management to meet customer requirements. • Collected and analyzed data from a hemispheric resonator gyro system, in support of high-angular-velocity testing. Presented results and provided recommendations to management.

Managed the development of an autonomous ground vehicle that qualified for and competed in the March 2004 DARPA Grand Challenge (Our vehicle ‘Bob’ traveled 1.4 miles autonomously under full computer control before a software fault ended its journey). Supervised 25 Caltech undergrads to develop the vehicle and all sub-systems (power, actuators, sensors, low- and high-level software, embedded systems). Managed budget and schedule. Developed test plans. Secured use of test areas.
