Working in Respiratory Medicine

In September 2010 I took my ABPI exam and passed first time with my specialist papers being in Pharmacology, Respiratory diseases and Oncology.

As part of my third-year research studies – leading to my dissertation – I worked at the MRC Research Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology.This research work provided me with an insight into how drug companies operate and sparked my interest in the sales and marketing aspect of the pharmaceutical industry.

In this eight-week project I surveyed the development and regulation of the market for drug distribution outside of the UK and across the European Union on behalf of two related companies Blackrock and Pharmalink.

I worked for two and a half months at UCB, a pharmaceutical company based in Slough. I was part of a team researching drugs affecting respiratory pharmacology. During this time I learned how to work in a small team towards a common goal. I was also ran an experiment on my own to help the group with their future research.
