I write about Indonesia, where I lived and worked for many years, originally inspired by Joseph Conrad's: "An Outcast of the Islands.". I have two long-term projects: a polylingual jungle novel modeled on Joyce's "Finnegans Wake," and a four volume-series, written from the point of view of an eighteenth-century novelist of the road, looking back upon the year 1674, in the Spice Islands of Dutch Colonial Indonesia.
