To act as the organization’s lead competent person for Health and Safety as defined by the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. To ensure the organization complies with current Health and Safety legislation and Approved Codes of Practice. To work proactively with managers to establish and maintain a system that promotes a culture of safe working practices across the organization - Ensure the Company’s Health and Safety Policy is implemented consistently across the organization.- Monitor, evaluate and review Health and Safety policy and practice, make recommendations and implement new policies and procedures as required.- Assist in the identification of training needs for staff and develop and deliver training as required.- Support managers to maintain safe systems, providing specialist advice, coaching and practical support.- Carry out regular site inspections and report and shortcomings to the relevant manager.- Create risk assessments and ensure they are regularly reviewed.- Investigate and record accidents, incidents and near misses and report to the Health & Safety executive where required.- Keeping up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all legislation.- Ensuring the safe installation of and maintenance of equipment.- Managing and organizing the safe disposal of hazardous substances.- Advising on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances.- Put out tenders for contractors.- Manage, supervise and coordinate the work of contractors.- Directing, coordinating and planning essential services such as cleaning, catering, waste disposal and recycling.- Ensure the facility and equipment receives regular inspections and maintenance- Carry out a regular audit of the Health & Safety management System (OHSAS 18001)- Provide Health & Safety audit updates at Management meetings and setting new targets
