One of my earliest memories is when I was around 5 or 6, my parents took me to see the school play A Year in Frog and Toad. We were squished into the bleachers, and I remember looking around when suddenly, the stage lights came on. Actors meant to look like birds came onto the shabby school stage and began singing about flying south for the winter. I was mesmerized. This was the moment where I began to fall in love with not just theatre, but storytelling as well. Throughout middle and high school I would develop and build my storytelling skills to the best of my ability until when I hit college I began to place it through a marketing lens. Everything has a story behind it, and just like actors, marketers help connect the audience to the story and get them excited about it. Marketers should make their audience, to quote a favorite creator of mine, Breadsword, "feel like a lightning bolt struck you in the chest and you'll go: YES! That's it! That's what we were missing!" Marketing, like storytelling, can be used to give information, but when we connect and mesmerize or inspire our intended audience...that's something special. I am a currently a senior at Fordham University's Gabelli School of Business studying Global Business with a Marketing Concentration.
