There are a wide range of responsibilities involved in this post that change between seasons, including habitat management and ecological surveys.• Management of wetland and reed beds• Wetland Bird Survey (WEBS)• RSPB course into wildflower identification and anatomy• Bittern surveys • Lapwing/tree sparrow monitoring• Breeding bird surveys • Guided walks, including dawn chorus• Bat monitoring • Moth/butterfly surveys• Path maintenance• Water level and sluice work• Use of Merlin software• GIS and mapping software

March 2020 to July 2020I have just completed a volunteer programme at Spurn Bird Observatory. My duties as a volunteer focused on species point count surveys. These were undertaken every morning, to determine the levels of grounded migrants on the reserve. I have also undertaken visible migration surveys (Vis-mig).Undertaking these surveys has helped to develop my bird identification skills and has helped me master my ability to identify birds with their calls.My duties increased with Coronavirus and I assisted in the Little Tern Project where I was responsible for erecting the fencing and monitoring and protecting the birds at their nest sites. This included locating chicks for ringing.
