QX Magazine is a free weekly London listings magazine, centred around the city’s nightlife, arts and culture - a little like Time Out, but with an LGBTQ focus. It’s the most widely read LGBTQ weekly in the UK. I started at QX as a features writer but took on the role of editor in August 2016. I made the decision to radically alter the way the magazine was presented. In publication since the early 90s, QX had a reputation for catering exclusively to gay men, its covers mostly featured shirtless, muscular cisgender white men. I changed the magazine’s appeal to match today’s diverse LGBTQ community and changing attitudes, representing a wide spectrum of genders, sexualities and people of colour.

As Features Writer for 1883 Magazine, I was required to write online and print features on arts, fashion, music and culture. 1883 focuses on championing up-and-coming artists, so all content had to be fresh and original. I was also required to cover events – usually of the nature that matched the magazine’s culturally conscious readers: society events or film premiere parties.
