These exams consist of using a GPS to locate points, recording basal area, diameter at breast height (DBH), tree heights using a clinometer, any damage or imperfections, disease/bugs, and identifying all tree and plant species at each location• Assist with prescribed burns for both private landowners and Texas parks and wildlife properties. I am responsible for lighting strips, and monitoring fire lines by foot, on UTV, or driving the pump truck to monitor for spots and help with snags. I also assist our drone operator with interior ignition and drone set up.• Responsible for the data collection, construction, and maintenance of snake box and funnel traps. I run 14 box and funnel traps where I process all snakes and herpetofauna that we catch. • Responsible for data collection and maintenance on the hoop nets for turtles.• Assist with the Red-cockaded woodpecker (RCW) monitoring for the Sam Houston National Forest and private land owners. I Identify cavity trees, peep cavities during nesting season, record nesting data, climb cavity trees for chick banding in accordance to USFS standards, sex juveniles using the peeper pole and morphology, and record any mortality, failed nests, or re-nest.• Experienced in the installation and construction of RCW cavities including installs, refurbishing, and replacing artificial cavities.
