Throughout my years in college, I have strived to learn what I can do with a Political Science degree. Once I graduated from San Jose State University I began to work for a city council member in San Jose, CA. I learned about the pressing issues of homelessness and figuring out ways they can be placed in better living conditions. I was mostly working with low-income families and participating in the Mayors Gang Prevention Task Force. I dealt with families who wanted to continue monthly neighborhood meetings. I was there to assist new members in continuing their housing association by teaching them about grants and brainstorming ideas on how to beautify their neighborhoods. From there, I have piqued an interest in psychosocial issues in vulnerable communities. I want to help struggling families and provide ways for them to create better living conditions. Therefore, I am looking for career opportunities involving counseling, assistance, and outreach to these types of communities. I plan to go back to school to study psychology and hopefully gain both volunteer and working experience in the mental health sector at the same time.
