I have met great people, and had some invaluable experiences during my time working different food / customer service positions, of that I have no doubt. But while all my jobs in food service have had elements that I've enjoyed - I still have yet to find a job that really utilizes my strengths and interests -- a job where I feel cognitively challenged, and am required to put my skill set to use. My long term goal is to return to the subject of my major, Psychology, and work toward being involved at the professional, clinical, personal level, as opposed to academic. Ideally I would likely start out trying to get involved in some sort of social work, psychopathology, particularly among young adults and teenagers. There is a great need for mental health services in this country, and I would love to be able to help people get through the toughest periods in their lives. Another pursuit of mine has been hosting music events. My experience organizing, promoting, coordinating, and hosting a 3-day outdoor music festival, showcasing local Portland bands of all genres in Veneta, OR was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. The experience really illuminated how much I enjoy that type of work. It could be organizing and planning events, working promotion and media, booking bands, or working setup and take down. I just love being a part of the process - seeing it all come together and knowing that the result of my hard work was that everyone involved had the time of their lives, is really a feeling that sticks with you. The idea of getting paid to do something I genuinely love is a very exciting prospect, and i hope to be heading in that direction. Ideal jobs aside, I'm enjoying my current position at PSI Testing. Test Center AdministratorPsi Services Llc Nov 2020 - PresentPortland, Oregon Metropolitan AreaI work as a test center administrator, where I assist and supervise candidates while they take their exams. I sign candidates in when they arrive, instruct them as to the rules, security procedures and testing process. I provide candidates with their respective testing materials, troubleshoot technical problems on the testing computers, and monitor the test area to ensure all candidates are adhering to our policies on cheating and other security measures. I do my best to ensure candidates have a positive testing experience. When candidates have completed their exams, I give them back their belongings, as well as their score report. I also run background checks and do fingerprinting for candidates in the insurance and real estate industries. I set up the testing center in the morning, sanitize computer stations in between sessions, and ensure everything is shut down, secured, submitted, and filed appropriately by the end of the day.

I learned the layout of the city, got to listen to music, and make friendly conversation with customers. It was very low-stress. After I got a job as a metal fabricator, I continued working for as a courier on the side. I enjoyed the ability to make my own schedule, and be my own boss. After a few months doing deliveries for Postmates, I experimented with a similar platform called Caviar, which I ended up switching to exclusively. While I enjoyed the delivery jobs and appreciate what they have to offer, I feel ready for the next chapter. -

I didn’t have any prior experience with this sort of work, but I assured the boss that I’m a quick learner and have a good work ethic. He gave me the job, and had my former co-worker train me. Our primary job was to disassemble large steel platforms before they got loaded onto trucks. It was physically intensive, which was a big part of the reason I enjoyed it. Ultimately, I decided it wasn’t for me, but overall it was a positive experience. I got in really good shape, and became much more proficient with tools. -

On a busy night, the work was incredibly fast paced and non stop - as demanding as I can imagine a dishwashing job to be. After a few months, I was promoted to a prep-cook position, working the early shift, 8am-4pm. I was tasked with preparing large quantities of a variety of cajun foods, stocking the freezers, fridges, dry storage, and kitchen with the foods that I’d prepared, which the night time crew would use for dinner that night. -

As this would be the unveiling of the new residence hall, we were held to a very high standard of with regard to room cleanliness.Once work was done at the Global Scholars Hall, it was time to take care of the other residence halls around campus. Divided into groups, we moved from building to building, deep-cleaning each room and taking care of all necessary repairs and maintenance.It was hard work, but the accomplished feeling that followed each day was a rewarding one.
