I developed skills related to tree pruning, tree removal, and tree climbing. While working at Davey Tree I developed a greater understanding of tree identification, tree maintenance, and overall plant health. I also took over the lawn care operation in 2019 and managed all of the clients in the Indianapolis area. The company gave me the opportunity to fine tune my ability to work on a team, as I spent 10 to 12 hours a day working with small groups to safely implement the job duties while cautiously avoiding any damage to the property.

Transitioning from a server to a barista at Starbucks has been a relatively comfortable change. I am still working with customers and providing them with an experience that often brightens their day, but it also provides me with a more diverse variety of tasks throughout the shifts. There are 6 interchangeable positions that I could work in a single day at work, whether I am the one creating the beverages, taking drive-through orders, or prepping and stocking for the baristas, there is always something to be done. Since the job has aspects of an assembly line in the way the work is completed, teamwork is as important as ever in order to provide customers with the most efficient and positive experience possible.

I am currently the undergraduate teaching assistant for the 100 level course labeled as Environment and People through SPEA, which is now an introductory environmental sustainability class that is available to students in every school at the university. My position requires that I grade certain assignments for the professor and I work help students better comprehend the material, while assisting them with work on in-class projects. It is my goal to develop proactive discussions in the course by getting the students to think outside of their comfort zone and modify the perspectives they have molded on the issues plaguing the environment. I believe the course is incredibly important because for many of these students, this is some of the only coursework that will give them insight on the issues developing in the natural world, and it is the class that convinced me to change my major to environmental management.

Bear's is a popular local restaurant and bar located just south of Indiana University Bloomington's campus. When I work, I am generally responsible of serving half of the dining room and making sure everyone feels comfortable in the environment we provide. I often work with a lot of intoxicated customers since the restaurant becomes a bar in the evenings, so I have to be extra careful when interacting with customers to keep their spirits friendly and happy. Also, since the restaurant is small and local, it has a smaller staff, so it is important to keep a positive and efficient environment among employees to keep the shifts running smoothly when we get busy with bar crawls or after party events.
