This resulted in me also assisting FEMA and other agencies/organizations as a consultant to assist in other aspects of recovery. I drew upon my lessons learned not only during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita but also as the City of Houston's acting Director of Disaster Housing and Hurricane Ike Recovery Operations as well as emergency management responses to several other hurricanes in Texas. Vice President of Government Affairs: December 2005 -January 2007Project management and business development. Operations Officer for Joint Hurricane Housing Task Force where I coordinated the City of Houston emergency housing operations of 37,000 family units for hurricane evacuees. Duties included: Voucher issue/control, Liaison to FEMA and local authorities, rental validation for payment, furniture deliveries, utility management and payment authentication, call center and communications with evacuees and landlords and inspector general duties

Assisted in the establishment and direction of the City's Fleet Management Department. Provided maintenance, contract support, parts control and outside service vendor support required to maintain over 12,500 city heavy and light vehicles and various rolling stock. During the two year period: doubled the Department's fleet responsibility size, dramatically reduced per vehicle maintenance costs while increasing both vehicle availability and mechanic productivity. Supervised training of internal mechanics and supervisory personnel. Created a shop manager training program to increase the ability to vertically promote quality staff. Monitored budgets, work order data entry, fleet maintenance software, and routine management reports. Assisted with the troubleshooting of key concerns.

Make Houston the best place for veterans to live. Assist veterans of the United States Armed Forces through advocacy, referral and counseling, to ensure that neither they, nor their dependents, nor survivors are denied access to earned benefits. Build collaborations within the community to increase awareness, availability and services in the areas of: Medical, Housing, Education, Employment, Mentorship and Communication. After six years of service to area veterans, military and their families it was time to pass it on to other capable hands. I built the office from scratch to being consistently lauded across the nation for its service and for its results. In October 2013 on my way to my next job, Houston was named by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and USAA as the "Best Place in America for veterans to live". A title many in Houston all helped to achieve as we pulled together in common accord.

Provide strategic direction and coordination for organizations assisting with the settlement of 150,000 plus Hurricane Katrina/Rita evacuees into the Houston area. Emphasis on housing, employment, interagency cooperation, data tracking, funds procurement and management, governmental programs and legislation.

Establish system functions to monitor and coordinate the reduction of chronic homelessness in Houston. Coordinate communication, database, grant application, and housing programs.

Commanded soldiers, led and orchestrated training activities, planned and executed operations and logistics worldwide, developed and monitored budgets, communicated across large cultural and socio-economic boundaries.
