Firstly designing and operating X-ray beamlines for structural biology, then in building and subsequently managing the international Partnership for Structural Biology, and the case and preparation phase for the 250MEuro European Synchrotron Upgrade. Today, I manage the relations between the European Synchrotron and industry, which generates about 2MEuros annually and participates in one third of the public science done at the ESRF. This feeds my drive for entrepreneurialism and business, particularly with the challenges of engaging industry with a state-of-the-art research infrastructure. I am also active in The African Light Source Foundation where I am proud to be a member of the Executive Committee driving forwards the concept of an advanced light source - synchrotron - to be build in Africa, by Africa, for Africa.
