Reading for Disciplinary Literacy, 2015 - presentDesigned to engage educators in considering what happens when we leverage disciplinary literacy skills to transform gaps into gains. Participants will explore opportunities to provide students with diverse text types and activate background knowledge to support engagement with content and extend students’ depth of comprehension. Educators will experience AVID’s Critical Reading Process and engage in collaborative strategies that build students’ content-area literacy skills and allow them to access rigorous content. This Community of Practice will empower every educator with the knowledge, strategies, and resources necessary to foster a culture of literacy and gradually release responsibility to students.Strategic Leadership of College and Career Readiness, 2022 - presentDesigned to engage teams of three or more members of district- and school-based leadership in creating a strong infrastructure to lead change to support college and career readiness for all students. Participants will explore a defined leadership theory of action that addresses educator beliefs and behaviors, identifies campus-wide conditions, and supports AVID Schoolwide implementation and sustainability to ensure college and career readiness for all. Participants will return to their schools equipped with a systemic approach to identify specific strategies to accomplish, anticipate, and troubleshoot potential obstacles and barriers and implement lasting change to provide equitable educational opportunities for all students. Fostering an Equitable and Engaging Culture in Classrooms, 2017 - 2019Designed to address and meet the need for educators, counselors, and site leaders to foster an equitable and engaging culture for learning. Participants will explore current research and engage in critical conversations around the composition of a culturally responsive classroom.
