There are many reasons why people may choose to use the services of an independent occupational therapist and I very much enjoy the challenge of looking for solutions for each unique situation that clients bring to me.I am available to work with individual clients and continue to maintain my skills through my work with the various companies and agencies I am an associate member of.

I have been fortunate to join the Think Therapy 1st team and am loving working within their model of providing meaningful, individually tailored rehabilitation programmes for clients who have typically sustained life-changing injuries. The aim is to enable clients to take back control of their lives and maximise their future well-being.

I undertake assessments with applicants who have requested an assistance dog through Canine Partners. My role is to help the Canine Partners applications team to understand the individual's issues and abilities and how an assistance dog could enhance their life and help them engage more fully in activities. I also assess the applicant's ability to provide the care and exercise the dog requires, with support from carers or family if needed, and the space for the dog to live and work within the home and/or workplace.

I provide medico-legal reports for clients of Somek & Associates. I accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant Solicitors and Insurers. I have undergone formal training in the medico-legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedures Rules (CPR) pertaining to Expert Witnesses.

Assessments and rehabilitation programmes for clients referred to the OT Practice. The role requires a high standard of report writing and includes recommendations for equipment and adaptations and therapy programmes.I have also carried out assessments to provide assessments and recommendations for equipment and minor adaptations to clients' homes for charities and for local authorities under the Disabled Facilities Grant scheme .

Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary And West Of Region

In my recent NHS role, I worked three days per week in the out-patient Occupational Therapy MSK Hand Clinics for the region. Referrals were received from GPs, the rheumatology and orthopaedic services or via self referral. Conditions commonly treated included rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, trigger finger/thumb, de Quervain's tenosynovitis and a variety of non-specific difficulties with hand function. Post operative rehabilitation programmes for conditions such as traoeziectomy and Dupuytren's contracture release were also carried out. Interventions included assessment using a variety of standardised and non-standardised techniques, splinting and specific exercise and rehabilitation activities as well as a broader lifestyle management approach such as providing ergonomic advice and teaching joint protection techniques.

West Of Region

Team leader to Occupational Therapy team for a region with remote and rural geography covering a Community Hospital with acute and rehab wards, 3 cottage hospitals, a Rehabilitation Day Unit and Community Rehabilitation.My clinical caseload included in and out-patients & community rehabilitation. A wide range of adult clients, many with multiple pathology, a combination of new onset and long-term conditions and often with complex social and/or mental health issues. A high level of clinical assessment, treatment, problem solving skills and inter-disciplinary working were required to ensure safe discharge with the necessary equipment and care provision in place.During 2014-15 I was seconded 2 days per week to the Rheumatology out-patient clinic at the Regional District Hospital. Following on from this, I ran outreach OT Hand Clinics commencing June 2015 in Community & cottage hospitals to deliver service closer to home for patients in remote and rural locations. Conditions and interventions as above.Supporting the regional OT Head of Profession in management and development of the service and lead projects within the regional OT service e.g. OT representative on regional Moving & Handling Working Group.

National Role (Voluntary)

The College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section- Older People (COTSS-OP) aims to support OTs working with older people to share best practice, meet learning and development needs, provide networking and share a 'passion for the care and services of older people'. I was a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC)and co-lead of the Acute Care & Emergency clinical forum. The role included attending NEC meetings, preparing reports for NEC meetings, writing for the members newsletter, responding to members' queries, keeping up to date with developments in the OT role in acute and emergency care and linking with others in the field.
