I am a highly experienced occupational therapist based in South West Scotland. I offer a personalised service to help adult clients and their families who may be experiencing difficulties arising from illness, accident or simply the challenges of growing older. I have over 30 years experience both in the NHS and the private sector. Working in a wide range of settings and in a variety of clinical specialities has given me a broad range of knowledge and experience to draw on for each individual I work with. Some of the things I can help with include:- Recommending equipment or minor adaptations to make everyday tasks easier.- Personalised rehabilitation programmes to help regain or improve independence and confidence.- "Future proofing" your home to make it easier to manage in later years.- Finding ways to keep doing the things you value in your daily life, from basic tasks like getting dressed and preparing a meal to things you enjoy such as your hobbies, interests or holidays.- Learning to cope with the effects of a long term illness. - Hand therapy programmes to fit your needs.- I offer telephone or video consultation if this better suits your needs.Our daily routines and activities are very important for our health and well-being. Feeling in control of our own life and able to manage as much as possible of what we need or choose to do helps us all get the most from every day and can improve quality of life. In my recent NHS role, I worked three days per week in the out-patient Occupational Therapy MSK Hand Clinics for the region. Referrals were received from GPs, the rheumatology and orthopaedic services or via self referral. Conditions commonly treated included rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, trigger finger/thumb, de Quervain's tenosynovitis and a variety of non-specific difficulties with hand function. Post operative rehabilitation programmes for conditions such as traoeziectomy and Dupuytren's contracture release were also carried out. Interventions included assessment using a variety of standardised and non-standardised techniques, splinting and specific exercise and rehabilitation activities as well as a broader lifestyle management approach such as providing ergonomic advice and teaching joint protection techniques.

Team leader to Occupational Therapy team for a region with remote and rural geography covering a Community Hospital with acute and rehab wards, 3 cottage hospitals, a Rehabilitation Day Unit and Community Rehabilitation.My clinical caseload included in and out-patients & community rehabilitation. A wide range of adult clients, many with multiple pathology, a combination of new onset and long-term conditions and often with complex social and/or mental health issues. A high level of clinical assessment, treatment, problem solving skills and inter-disciplinary working were required to ensure safe discharge with the necessary equipment and care provision in place.During 2014-15 I was seconded 2 days per week to the Rheumatology out-patient clinic at the Regional District Hospital. Following on from this, I ran outreach OT Hand Clinics commencing June 2015 in Community & cottage hospitals to deliver service closer to home for patients in remote and rural locations. Conditions and interventions as above.Supporting the regional OT Head of Profession in management and development of the service and lead projects within the regional OT service e.g. OT representative on regional Moving & Handling Working Group.
