After 35 years as Director of Strategy and Communications at Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, I recently retired from that position and also stepped down as Lead Consultant to the Metropolitan Beaches Commission, which I helped to lead and manage for the Massachusetts Legislature since its inception.I am currently Bostons BayWatcher, and Chair of the Public Interest Advisory Committee for the Mass Bay Outfall Monitoring Science Advisory Panel. I also curate the web portal and streaming media site at www.bostonharbor.com, edit the blog "The View from Sea Level", and am collaborating with my Brown University colleague Ross Cheit on a book tentatively titled "Big Fish: The Politics of Fisheries Management in the United States", which will be published by Temple University Press.I taught public policy, Boston Harbor history, marine science, management and communications at Boston University from 1999 - 2014. I currently spend the winter in Miami Beach and the rest of the year in Boston with my wife Patricia Foley on our 41' 1987 DeFever trawler "Verandah" at Constitution Marina on Boston Harbor.
