The main purpose of this job is to work across the development management and strategy policy teams on large scale planning applications, development sites and appeals. Specific duties and responsibilities include: 1. The processing of major and / or controversial planning applications.2. Advising interested parties, applicants, developers, architects etc. in relation to tentative or proposed developments and on all aspects of Development Management, including the Council’s own development, and to provide excellent customer care.3. The processing, preparation and presentation of the Council’s own case in respect of their own and other officers’ applications, particularly at hearings and inquiries.4. Attending Sub-Committee and Planning Committee meetings as necessary to assist the Development Manager, and Senior Planning Officers in the reporting and consideration of applications, and to advise the Committee and present reports on planning applications and other planning matters.5. To provide policy observations and guidance to development management planning officers. 6. To provide professional guidance and direction to Councillors and members of the public at working groups, committees and public meetings. 7. To assist the Planning Policy Manager in the production of sound planning documents in accordance with the statutory requirements and within the timescales set within the Local Development Scheme.
