Technical Consultant/Architecture - Ios Mobile Apm Real-User Monitoring

Waltham, Ma, Us

Developing application performance monitoring tools for iOS applications. Utilizing an agent, known as the Dynatrace Mobile ADK, which I previously architected and developed. This agent auto injects into iOS Applications, requiring no coding changes on behalf of the application for implementation, and instruments application activity by producing metrics viewable by the Dynatrace Client. Captures front-end UI activity and back-end server calls while monitoring device performance. The injection software is being patented and is currently pending approval.Designed and developed a symbol extraction tool used in conjunction with de-obfuscating crash reports. The Mac OS/X client parses and extracts iOS application symbol (dSYM) files from compiled applications, archives, and Apple archives supporting bitcode architecture. Extracted symbol data is then uploaded to a central symbol server store, where it accessed by the Dynatrace Client in processing iOS crash reports. Server-side extensions processing crash reports are written in Java.Worked closely with various major US and International corporations on adoption and support. Our software is used by 9 of the top 10 retailers, 386 of Fortune 500 companies, and 9 out of the top 10 largest banks in the world. Dynatrace is running on tens of millions of mobile devices around the world.

Technical Consultant/Architecture - Windows Mobile Apm Real-User Monitoring

Detroit, Mi, Us

Designed and developed a complete product infrastructure for capturing application performance analytics for Windows 8.0/8.1 Mobile, Tablet, Metro and desktop applications. Product integrates with Visual Studio 12/13 via NuGet package add-in. When enabled by VS menu attribute selection, analytics are instrumented in automatically as a post-build step. Instrumentation utilizes “Mono Cecil” to inspect the application for target signatures provided by platform specific agents. The agents prescribe their instrumentation hooks via custom attributes designed to describe class, method and event type hooks. These attributes are used by the instrumentation engine to hook any programmatic interface, for any of the Windows platforms listed above, including asynchronous state machine operations. Instrumentation hooks are weaved into the application’s assemblies, while maintaining the application’s symbolic PDB structure, providing a seamless integration for the application being developed, debugged and ultimately packaged for Windows Store submission, or enterprise distribution. This architecture is primed for newly upcoming Windows 10 platform.Once instrumented, agents within the application capture complete life-cycle transactions, for every user, identifying performance impacts (root cause analysis) while correlating device metrics and crash reporting statistics for analysis within DynaTrace’ Pure-Path technology.

Technical Consultant/Architecture - Ios Synthetic Monitoring – Capture/Replay

Detroit, Mi, Us

Based on prior research efforts, designed and developed a robust record/playback product for iOS native and web-based applications, used for synthetic monitoring. All touch, swipe gestures and baseline performance metrics are recorded and saved within a script. Works on either real devices or against the iOS Simulator. Runtime hooks attach a script manager console to the application where the scripts are recorded, edited, and played back. Scripts can be modified as well as providing various runtime options. When scripting is complete, it has been designed to package the application along with associated scripts and transmit to Gomez for world-wide synthetic playback. During playback, performance and life-cycle metrics would be captured in conjunction with iOS APM RUM capabilities.Entire capabilities are totally dynamic and completely non-intrusive to the application, requiring NO source code changes. In fact, source is not even required as IPA’s are used – all that is required is a provisioning key associated with Apple’s SDK environment. In a rooted environment, most applications obtained from Apple’s AppStore can be re-provisioned and instrumented for capture/replay. Features include: product designed as an optional plug-in framework into APM’s common iOS product architecture; stand-alone utilities for controlling all product capabilities, along with an optional integration with Apple’s XCode IDE for a comprehensive development environment. For internal use, developed a testing and management facility using MobileSubstrate tweaks within a jail broken environment.

Technical Consultant\Architecture - Ios Mobile Apm Real-User Monitoring

Detroit, Mi, Us

Designed and developed the base infrastructure for capturing and transmitting real device metrics and custom user metrics within iOS applications to backend monitoring servers. Originally designed to transmit captured data to Gomez, the product was later changed to feed DynaTrace Pure-Path technology for analysis and reporting. As part of the implementing architecture, the life-cycle, events and device metrics associated with iOS applications and hardware were designed in an extensive/plug-in framework making it simply for new product extensions to be added. A sophisticated communications architecture manages events and routing of information both internally for product functionality, as well as externally for transmission to back-end collection servers. SQL-lite is used for persisting data captured, ensuring data integrity and consistency during radio and Wi-Fi blackout periods. Offline collected data is automatically transmitted when possible.
