One could probably say that “chicken” is the common thread that led to the start of my IT career at ConAgra Foods. From product costing and analysis on the chicken used in Banquet, Healthy Choice and Marie Callender’s products (when my team called me “chicken man”), to plant controller at a chicken processing plant, to purchasing chicken. All of my business/finance/product costing knowledge and experience ultimately led to the request for me to accept a Business SME role in ConAgra’s IT department. I initially started my IT role with the agreement to work on one 2 to 3 year SAP implementation project, then return to the business, but my role evolved into an IT career spanning over 9 years. If you believe in that “Midwestern work ethic”, well I’ve got that, a principle which I acquired growing up on an Iowa family farm. This work ethic drives the passion and perseverance that I bring to each project and role that I am challenged with. The past nine years have given me the opportunity to work on projects large and small, providing different perspectives and collaboration opportunities in determining optimal designs, solutions and process improvements. As a Business SME, I have worked on entire project implementation lifecycles, from requirements gathering to implementation/stabilization. I leverage my practical business experience in an IT position to better understand the business user perspective and to work as liaison between highly technical resources and business users.I like to follow the Kansas City Royals baseball team, but I am not as a bandwagon fan, as I stuck with the Royals even during their 100 loss seasons in the early 2000’s. My wife is not a baseball fan, so when we watch something together, it is likely going to be a movie or maybe one of her favorite network shows like Dancing with the Stars (yippee!).
