Throughout my professional career, I have been dedicated to the pursuit of higher education and expanding my intellectual horizons while de-mystifying and explaining academic pursuits in a way that is engaging and comprehensible to students. I hold a PhD in history from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a BA in History and an MA in Modern History from the University of Sheffield. My main research focused on masculinities and working-class culture in the British punk movement from 1976-1990s. My dissertation explored the relationship between working-class masculinities and DIY music in Britain during the dramatic process of de-industrialization in the 1970s and 1980s. Particularly, it focused on consumer culture, youth culture, and re-appropriation of urban industrial spaces for cultural means. By framing this study in terms of masculinity, it places social experience alongside cultural representation. Even though the punk movement initially embraced women as cultural producers, punk came to be understood as an articulation of violent, working-class masculinity. My project interrogates this categorization by looking at the lived experiences of young men and women as well as their self-representation within a wider cultural movement.For my comps, I focused on the British Empire in the long 18th century, Gender, and Modern Britain from the late 18th century to the present. I have been a TA for a variety of courses and have taught the US history from 1492-1865 and 1865 to the present, as well as gender in Early Modern Europe, Napoleon and the French Revolution, and the History of the Atomic Bomb. I was also privileged to serve as the co-coordinator for the Gender Symposium for the 2018-19 academic year. During the 2020-2021 academic year I worked as a Graduate Research Assistant for the Texas State Historical Association, researching and writing articles for the Handbook of Texas as well as performing other administrative duties.Prior to my current studies, I have a professional background in sports administration, production editing, and as a front of house assistant in the UK. Writing is one of my main hobbies, and I relish any opportunity to pursue new writing and editorial projects.
