Staff Nurse - Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Unit primarily working 11-7 , Team Leader (Charge Nurse), Mentors and Precepts new Staff Nurses on the Unit. Serves as a resource person. Previous experience working with the Psychiatric Assessment Team. Ensures safe delivery of psychiatric nursing care on the unit. Nursing Admission / Psychiatric Assessments, Developing,Initiating and Updating of Nursing Care Plans.Conducts Mini Mental Status Assessments, Observing good infection control practices. Crisis Intervention. Chart Auditing. Debriefing staff after a crisis and assisting team members on other inpatient psychiatric units in Methodist Transplant and Specialty Hospital (MSTH)

Staff Nurse ( Team leader/Charge Nurse ) Providing psychiatric nursing care to patients on the Admissions Unit (Goyens Hall) makes staff assignments. Communicates with the team members on a regular basis. Pt safety and environmental rounds conducted routinely to ensure safe environment for the patients and staff. Assists in Behavioral / Medical Emergencies. Collaborates with fellow RN's on the unit. Admit patients and formulate and initaite nursing care plans. Observe infection control practices. P education about good hand washing, personal hygiene, disease and medication teaching reinforcement. Communicates with the Nursing Supervisor and with the Physician on duty. Discharge patients on the weekends as assigned. reviewing d/c information with patient and family.

Providing Home Health Psychiatric Nursing care to home bound patients who were recently discharged from inpatient hospitalization or to patients who do not meet the criteria for inpatient treatment. Performs routine mini mental status assessments, patient education regarding illness co-morbidities (htn, dm, cardiac renal etc) , Medication education and teaching reinforcement. Admits new patients, re-certifying utilizing OASIS documentation and familiarity with the 485 form. Develops and initiates nursing care plans. Coordinating patient care with other health care providers. Attends the multi-disciplinary treatment team meetings. Average no. of home visits 9-12 per week. Worked part-time at several home health care agencies with the same supervisor during this period.
