About Edith Joseph

Edith Joseph received an MSc degree in fine chemistry and materials from the University of Nantes (France) in 2001. From 2003, she joined Prof. Mazzeo at the Microchemistry and Microscopy Art Diagnostic Laboratory (University of Bologna, Italy) and obtained a PhD degree in chemistry on the application of FTIR microspectroscopy to cultural heritage materials in 2009. From 2010 to 2012, her Marie Curie fellowship at the Swiss National Museum aimed at the development of biological protective treatments for copper, iron and silver artefacts. Since June 2012, she is employed as scientific collaborator in the RA&D department of the University of Applied Sciences ARC Conservation-restoration (Neuchâtel, Switzerland). Since January 2013, she is also granted a Ambizione fellowship by the Swiss National Science Foundation at the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland).She published more than 45 articles in international journals and books and about 85 communications (oral or poster) submitted to national and International Conferences. She also participated in more than 25 national and international research projects dealing with archaeometry on paintings, ceramics, polychrome leathers, archaeological objects and outdoor bronze monuments. Her main research activities are: - Application of spectroscopies for the characterization of artistic and archaeological materials. - Characterization of heterogeneous matrixes. - Interactions organic substances – inorganic compounds. - Interactions microorganisms-cultural heritage materials.ICOM-CC member.Management Committee Substitute Member [TD1201 CH] to COST Action TD1201Colour and Space in Cultural Heritage.

The HE-ARC is an University of applied sciences specialized in the field of conservation-restoration of archaeological objects and scientific, technical and watchmakers. It is one of the only two schools in Europe teaching conservation-restoration of scientific and technical heritage.
