Conversation LAB expanded its offices to Johannesburg, Cape Town and London. I moved to Cape Town to head up the Cape Town office.I managed the daily running of the Cape Town branch reporting to the MD based in London and sat on the management team. Along with other office support duties I managed budgets, finances and the selecting, empowering, coaching, and retaining of qualified staff and their activities.In addition to the growth and development, I was also responsible for the smooth operations of the Cape Town accounts. This was primarily done through coordinating resources, developing strategic direction and planning campaigns.

My overall responsibility as an Account Director was the management of the accounts that fall under my remit and ensure the growth and development of these accounts.I provided support, guidance and direction to the internal teams (including monitoring performance). The team consisted of SEO, design, development, copy writing, social media and PPC; as well as Account Managers and Executives.My global brand clients include Mr Price Sport, Unilever (Sunlight and Vaseline), Diageo and Environ Skin Care. Some of my larger local brand clients include AdvTech (Varsity College, The Business School and Forbes Lever Baker), Coo-ee and The International Hotel School.Whilst under my management the accounts won 8 x New Generation Award and 9 x Assegai Awards.

Being out of the country for 3 and a half years I wanted to embed myself in the South African market and improve on my local knowledge. Where better to go than Google. As the coordinator to a programme that specialised in improving scalable support and training to digital agencies I had access to vast amounts of information regarding the digital environment in South Africa, barriers in the market place as well as missed opportunities.The role required me to grow the quantity and quality of Google Engage agency partners through market analysis and targeted marketing activities.

Taking my learnings as a “client” along with being part of a digital agency helped provide a clearer perspective of the wider digital space. As an Account Manger you are the intermediary between the client and the agency. You needed to work closely with clients to understand their challenges and requirements whilst spotting opportunities to deliver more services, subsequently generating incremental revenue.The Account Manager role provided key learnings on building happy, strong and honest relationships through the responsibilities of the day to day management of clients’ expectations.

From Website Assistant I was promoted to Website Manager for two of the company’s flagship websites. All the departments of the Company were in-house and the CEO allowed us to run the websites as our own businesses. Managing multiple online channels developed me into a quick learner with the ability to multi-task and have excellent attention to detail. Having all the necessary resources in-house was invaluable in building out a thorough understanding of digital marketing - very hands on and got to see the inner workings of what happens under the bonnet.
