My first work was as Electronic Laboratory Assistant during my 5th and 6th year in the Faculty of Engineering of Bilbao. It was fun: I remember fixing analog calculators...Later I began working at an architecture studio. I setup the original network at the time you had to purchase a network board and arpa services for your overpriced HP 9000 832 HP-UX server. PC were running Netware and later Microsoft Lan Manager.After a time there I worked in a Research Centre on ICT, named Teletek as Project Manager. When the process to merge with Robotiker was arriving to it's end, I came back to my first job to promote Intelligent Buildings (AT&T had proposed structured cabling) and at the same time, I became Technical Network Manager of the network.At that time I began working as associate professor in the Faculty Engineering of Bilbao, teaching Microprocessors Laboratory, Analog Electronic Lab and Industrial Electronic. Later I had the opportunity to pass to full dedication and switch Electronic courses for Computer Science and Telematics. That was the beginning.I set up a Research Group on Telematics with my, since then, colleague and friend Juanjo Unzilla. It was named GIT "Grupo de Ingeniería Telemática". It grew and eventually split in two. I actually continue directing I2T (Telematic Research Lab).Actually I am also designated by the University of the Basque Country as Technical Expert at the Advisory Council of the Data Protection Agency of the Basque Country. I have been holding it's presidency during 2010 and 2018.I have directed many research projects with private, public and mixed funding. Main areas or research are Security in Distributed Networks, Networking and Communications for Intelligent Transportation NetworksI have been acting as Head of the Communications Engineering Department of University of the Basque Country from 2012 to 2016.Since October 2019 I am Professor.Specialties: Technical Project Managing, Research in Advanced Networks, Distributed Systems Security.
