CurrentCreate and deliver practical everyday English lessons to Spanish speaking parents from Gregorio Luperon High School during free evening classes.Assess individual needs in order to assign the parents to the right level of English class. As well as utilizing the parents with more English efficiency to help the parents with little English knowledge.Exercise icebreakers and activities in order to create a good and healthy group culture and identity.Provide a safe zone for parents to perform classroom activities to practice and improve their pronunciation and diminish their nervousness to speak English in public.Actively collect feedback from parents to improve lessons, focus on what the parents goals are, and create engaging activities based on their expectations from the class.Organize field trips around the five boroughs of New York, in order to expose parents to the city’s rich historical culture, landmarks, museums, as well as other neighborhoods with different ethnic identities.Acclimate the newly arrived parents to the American culture through major holidays celebrations through group expositions, as well as discussions about the difference in celebrating a major holiday back home versus the American celebration.Provide volunteer work opportunities with local organizations, such as The Dyckman Farmhouse Museum, in order to give back to the community that has welcomed them as their new home and develop a feeling of being productive members of the community.Organize a last day celebration with certificates, medals, and an international food buffet to acknowledge the parents' hard efforts to come to class after a long day of work in order to learn English and become part of their new community.
