Work at HOB focused heavily on reverse-engineering, injection and hooking techniques, driver programming, networking protocols and low level coding and hardware interaction. Main development languages used were C, C++, Java, JNI, Ruby and Python.

I was employed at Melita plc, the leading Internet, Television and Mobile Services Provider in Malta, as an HFC (Hybrid Fibre and Coax) System Specialist.Here I was responsible for the distribution network that spans through all of Malta and the neighboring island of Gozo. My daily tasks involved having technicians at fault locations relay data back to meand me giving them feedback as to how the problem is to be fixed. Situated at the head-end I had to orchestrate the whole running of operations. Updates to the system which involved major hauls on the network infrastructure were also part of my responsibilities. One such major upgrade was with the introduction of DOCSIS 3.0 to replace DOCSIS 2.0. This was a major challenge and a big headache in planning, however we pulled it off with major success. We also introduced a new GPS leakage tracking (for fault monitoring) system, which I had a major role in ushering in. This is used in order to ease the location of faults, tracking their status and the technicians responsible for their repair.At Melita I got to learn many life building skills: team work across various fields of expertise; liaising with foreign and local suppliers; managing your own team in a way to gain mutual trust and respect; problem diagnosing and solving in a timely manner since this was an always on system with minimal (ideally none) downtime. I was responsible of helping customers diagnose problems with their connection and help them solve it. Liaise with the telephone company, for line tests and other tests which we could not carry out, since ownership of the infrastructure was of a different company. I was in charge of creating and updating inventory and changed the system from pen and paper to a digital database format, which was more of the 20th century.
