Servant Leader are easily two words that can be used to describe Edward Copes, a man who prioritizes service and helping others.Ed, as he is most often called, currently serves as a Windows Sustainment Engineer for Atlas Tech. He is a highly motivated information technology (IT) professional with 10+ years of experience in information assurance, networking and technical support. He joined Atlas in 2015 and takes pride in working for a company that cares about corporate social responsibility and has strong community involvement. Atlas has an employee volunteer committee, the Atlas Positive Impact Team (A+ IT), and Ed serves as the co-chairman for 3 years and is now the Chair. This team spearheads and directs a large part of the company’s charitable contributions.Energized and passionate about helping others, Ed gives back by volunteering his time to support various community initiatives and organizations. You can catch Ed planning STEM events and interacting with students through STEM outreach with the National Society of Engineers (NSBE). He has served as the Programs Chairman for NSBE Charleston since 2018. For the past two consecutive years (2019 and 2020), NSBE Charleston named Ed “Professional Member of the Year” for his tireless commitment to service and to the community. From STEMapalooza to A Walk For Education, Ed has planned and successfully executed major STEM events for NSBE. At least once a month, Ed dedicates his Saturday morning to distributing food to the community with Park Circle Cares. He serves on the board of directors for the Park Circle Cares non-profit organization. Outside of work and volunteering, Ed enjoys the beach, checking out local artists and supporting small businesses in the Charleston area.2022 SC Biz News Icons and Phenom award coastal.Although Ed was born in New York, South Carolina is the place he calls home. Prior to college, he spent time in the rural upstate South Carolina area and graduated from Abbeville High School. He attended and graduated from Johnson C. Smith University, an HBCU in Charlotte, NC. After graduating college, new opportunities led Ed to Charleston, and he’s held close ties to the Charleston community ever since.
