A highly motivated and determined individual who is currently a fulltime officer at UCLan students’ union after graduating from university with a 2:1 in BSC Biomedical science. For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated by science and science-based subjects, I was especially interested in the study of life even before I knew it as biology. All of my experiences gained from volunteering, studying and this current role have developed my self-motivation, confidence, commitment and organistional skills. I have also developed a positive focused style with a ‘hands on, get stuck in’ attitude to life that has serve me greatly throughout my education and will be vital in the future. I am the currently elected Activity and participation Officer and Company Director at the University of Central Lancashire Students’ Union. This role was situated at the highest strategical point of the institution and I had to ensure that the future of the union was bright and represent the student voice at all levels as well as providing development and opportunities.

  As the Activities and participation officer, company director and trustee I am responsible for ensuring that there is thriving student led activities in the Union as well as offering new opportunities, training and development for a large number of volunteers involved. My role also required me to explore new ways to engage students from all backgrounds into activities and to provide opportunity to participate, run and set up clubs. I had to ensure that there was a wide range of recreational sport and extracurricular activities as well as competitive sport including inter university competition such as varsity. Externally I set out to empower the sporting community to make a positive cultural change in the area and made links with national organisations like BUCS and NUS. Alongside the portfolio of the role, it means I’m also a Company Director, a Trustee of the board and Chair of the Human Resources committee of UCLan Students’ Union, a registered charity with an annual turnover of c.£4.4m. Elected to represent 26,000 students of University of Central Lancashire and being involved in projects such as the Getin2 project to increase recreational sport and UCLan through the ages which was funded by the heritage lottery fund. This role gave me the opportunity to be a member of many project boards within the university including the £200m campus masterplan. I also have lots of experiences of being on the panel for student disciplinary hearings, complaints and academic appeals. This meant that I had to make informed decisions following strict procedures and standards ensuring that the outcome was clear, precise and fair.
