I was responsible for oversight activities of the Mining group’s proposals, scoping level, prefeasibility, feasibility study documents and drawings. I supervised up to 18 employees and conducted annual performance reviews. As a Senior Project Specialist my roles included PM, task manager, and project engineer assignments for various underground mine design projects. Work included review, evaluate, and optimize designs for different mining methods, assess and evaluate the equipment selection, development and production schedules, and the capital and operating cost estimates. My task manager responsibilities included design basis documents, drawings, and material take-offs for a $3M shaft conveyance engineering design and fabrication project, and a related design for an underground hoist room ventilation system that included a hoist operator emergency breathable air system.I was the Joint Health and Safety Committee management member overseeing the office safety and MSHA training for the Tempe staff.

Subsurface nuclear repository design with Morison Knudsen, Bechtel SAIC, and URS. Supervised and managed the engineering activities for the Subsurface Mining, Ventilation, Geotechnical, and Mechanical Handling disciplines while maintaining the project’s technical and nuclear quality standards. Developed the subsurface budget, schedule, staffing levels, staff training, and conducted performance reviews. Supervised up to 15 employees.Responsible for planning, scheduling, and executing work related to the Yucca Mountain Project subsurface repository design and related defense of the License Application. The License Application subsurface layout and ventilation design package was supported by over 60 technical documents and 50 design drawings. Supported NRC resolution of subsurface design contentions. Other responsibilities included Project Engineer, subsurface ventilation design modeling, subsurface repository layout design, Title III Engineer at the Test Site, NRC License Application support, and was classified Subject Matter Expert for Yucca underground design.

Yucca Mountain Project

Various Yucca Mountain positions from subsurface engineering design, ventilation design, shaft design, mining group supervisor, Senior Engineering Specialist, License Application support, and NRC Contention resolutions. Effectively prepared subsurface layout design documents and drawings in accordance with the NQA-1 quality assurance program. Repository design was tunnel boring machine based. Responsible for the design of the subsurface emergency egress system and components including refuge chambers, escape hoists, ventilation control doors, communication and monitoring systems. Integrated subsurface design work within the Mining Team, other departments, organizations, consultants, and the U.S. Department of Energy. I was an Emergency response Team Member for the offices I was based in. I spent time at the Nevada Test Site, Area 25 as a Title III Engineer coordinating and managing engineering projects at the Yucca Mountain Exploratory Subsurface Facility.

Over 21 years with various positions in a 72,000 tpd block caving operation. Development supervision, production supervision, shaft sinking, rail haulage, roadheader operations, LHD, TBM project, project management, chief mine ventilation engineer, and chief planning and engineering supervisor.Supervised and managed the mine engineering, planning, geology, survey, and tonnage departments. These teams generated corresponding life of mine budget estimates, and mine development and production schedules. I was a key member of the Lower Kalamazoo Feasibility Study and expansion project team with responsibilities that included ventilation design, feasibility report preparation, directing project teams, and procurement. I successfully administered, scheduled, and coordinated subsurface detail design drawings completed by an external engineering firm. Other senior staff assignments included engineering staff management, performance reviews, contract management, maintenance projects, budgets, and report writing.As a project engineer I was responsible for the design, installation, and commissioning of subsurface structures worth up to $100,000. I have primary drift development, shaft and station development, LHD, and roadheader operating experience. I was also involved in various TBM and raise bore design and evaluation activities. As Senior Ventilation Engineer I was responsible for designing, installing, maintaining and operating the San Manuel Mine’s underground ventilation and 3,000-ton capacity cooling systems. Competently designed and managed the ventilation transition to the use of diesel equipment in development and production areas, and designed and managed the expansion of the mine cooling system’s applications and components into the lower ore zones. The job had extensive interactions with State and Federal Mine Inspectors.Other roles included support staff, project engineering, front line supervisions, and contract project management.
