Dean Of Admissions (Retired)
Edward Tom was the Dean of Admissions at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law (Boalt Hall) from 1987-2017. He is now retired. While at Berkeley, he initiated research and analyzed data and rulings related to the development and implementation all admission and enrollment policies. He managed a review process that resulted in admission decisions on 5,000-7,000 applications annually and administered the policies and procedures to admit and enroll each first-year and transfer class. Dean Tom also oversaw a comprehensive national outreach and recruitment program. His office included four full-time and several part-time staff. During his tenure, Berkeley Law School was the most selective public law school in the United States and routinely ranked among the top ten law schools in the country.
