Edward Hill is the Chief Sustainability Officer of Materra and oversees all impact assessment activities, across Materra’s regenerative and hydroponic programs. Proudly supported by H&M, Kering, Bestseller and PVH amongst others and based between London and India, Materra’s mission is to transform natural fibres into a force for environmental and social prosperity, starting with cotton. Ranging from experimental hydroponics to mass-market regenerative practices, Materra’s seed-to-bale solutions and proprietary technology enable brands to source climate-resilient, future-proof cotton with new levels of transparency while confidently progressing towards their sustainability goals.With a rigorous eye for detail, a passion for future-proof design and an uncompromising approach to sustainability, Ed likes to tackle complex global challenges by making the natural world a central stakeholder in the design process. His work at Materra revolves around assessing the impact of the custom cotton farming programs that Materra designs and implements with brands, particularly around supporting farmer livelihoods, reducing resource usage, restoring soil health and enhancing biodiversity. Ed has a background in material science and innovation design with MEng, MSc and MA degrees from the RCA and Imperial College London. He previously worked on cleantech R&D and agricultural projects across three different startups. Along with his co-founders, Ed was part of the Forbes 30u30 Europe list for Manufacturing and Industry, in 2021.
