Embedded Systems ConsultantBreathometer May 2017 - Jul 2017Burlingame, Ca, Us -
Systems EngineerBreathometer Apr 2016 - May 2017Burlingame, Ca, Us• Led FW development efforts on a cost-down version of Breathometer’s Mint breathalyzer, writing drivers and bare-metal system for a Silicon Labs BLE SoC, porting all existing functionality. Used tools such as logic analyzers and in-circuit debuggers to find and resolve EE issues, gathering data that would be used to drive component redesign. o Wrote routines to allocate Flash memory as writable persistent blocks used to store important calibration data, using checksums to ensure these values did not become corrupted.o Wrote and executed FW V&V protocols• Prototyped HW for R&D use. Modified existing PCBAs and designed 3D printed parts to quickly test different sensor arrays to drive rapid design decisions.• Designed End-of-Line Tester for factory testing of electrochemical sensors. Generated EE schematics, assembly drawings, SW/FW architecture, and wrote product requirements.• Developed C code for the TI MSP432 class of microcontrollers o Put system (uC and peripherals) into lowest power mode possible. Used datasheets to generate current consumption estimates to create an end current consumption goal.o Custom Bootloader to update FW via external UART porto Contributed to State Machine development. Used lab equipment to generate state transitions to validate system.• Performed EE board bring-up, testing EE components to validate PCB as well as component selection.• Developed an easy-to-use system to flash and test PCBAs in manufacturingo Built flashing HW fixture and accompanying Java SW that automates FW flashingo Developed factory serial port for TI MSP432 that allows technician to send commands to test EE peripherals, wrote Manufacturing Process Instruction to integrate with this porto Worked closely with manufacturers to train and support technicians• Aided in debug of multi-uC system, alleviating synchronization and data flow issues -
Manufacturing Engineering Project LeadFitbit Dec 2015 - Apr 2016San Francisco, California, Us• Managed a team of technicians to prepare the first ever set of publically shown Blaze fitness trackers, which were unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2016. Developed metrics and tracked statistics to improve yield to meet production goals when the Blaze is released to the public. • Created models using VBA and Excel to predict, aid, and simplify device manufacturing ramps by generating clear metrics for production targets, as well as analyzing supplier data to improve efficiency in manufacturing lines.• Created process flow and ramp plans to scale up Blaze preparation team to ready devices for VIPs. Modeled process flow in C++ to make hiring and resource placement decisions. -
Firmware Engineering ConsultantTactical Haptics Jun 2015 - Dec 2015Union City, Ca, Us• Worked as the primary firmware engineer on the design of an event-driven bare-metal system (written in C using the dsPIC family of microcontrollers) for a haptic video game controller for use in Virtual Reality• Cleaned and established coding standards within the existing code base, removing unnecessary processes from the MCU, as well as adjusting sampling rates and interrupt priorities to maximize processing power• Set up I2C serial interface to request quaternion output from an IMU. Post-processed this information onboard using quaternion algebra to communicate real time orientation to the PC, as well as run standalone demos modeling virtual springs• Explored multiple actuator possibilities and integrated interrupt service routines with PID control loops to control and track actuator positions and velocities• Integrated an RF IC to improve wireless connectivity with the PC and prevent system failure caused by poor connection• Used logic analyzer to debug serial communication networks (I2C and SPI) -
TutorStanford University Academic Athletic Resource Center Jan 2015 - Jun 2015Prepare and present material to undergraduate student-athletes taking Mechanics of Materials, Introduction to Solid Mechanics, and Introductory Electronics

Summer ResearcherBiomimetics/Dexterous Manipulation Laboratory Jun 2014 - Aug 2014• Designed experiments to test different arrays of sensors with a goal of detecting successful perching of a quadrotor. Programmed Arduino microcontroller to log 3-axis accelerometer readings, and post-processed to develop a closed loop machine learning algorithm to determine whether or not the quadrotor had perched in less than 80 ms.• Modified Bitcraze Crazyflie quadrotor RTOS to allow the quadrotor to perform closed loop maneuvers as commanded by a Play Station controller• Developed MATLAB scripts to generate plots to highlight aspects of different failure modes. These plots and modes were published in a paper accepted by the International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems.
