Edwin played a central role in defining resource mobilisation strategies, identifying markets, building relationships, strategically positioning Heifer International, strengthening country program’s capacity for resource mobilisation, and responding to funding opportunities. As a member of the Institutional Business Development team Edwin was expected to be aware of the funding environment throughout Southern Africa, and participate in opportunity responses. Responsibilities included identifying and prioritising key regional funding and implementing partners, building understanding among staff of funders’ interests, strategies and procurement mechanisms. He participated in regional and country office strategy development. Networking, gathering and analysing business intelligence were also among Edwin's responsibilities. He also built and documented relationships with priority funders and raised Heifer International’s visibility.Edwin assisted country offices to produce appropriate marketing materials and helped position Heifer International accordingly. Programme Development And Funding Officer
Edwin supported program staff and partners in developing high quality programs and projects, ensuring CAFOD and its partners obtained significant institutional donor funding for its development and humanitarian work. He managed and supported the preparation of program funding applications to institutional donors that include ECHO, Disaster Emergency Committee, DFID, European Commission, UN-led pooled funds and UN agencies, Bilateral country donors, Comic Relief, Big Lottery Fund, Ford Foundation and other institutional funders as appropriate. He ensured that partner organisations included in funding applications were aware of donor requirements and their obligations towards these, and that appropriate systems, including financial systems, were in place.He was responsible for establishing, maintaining and strengthening relationships with donors; creating opportunities to share CAFOD’s program experiences with donor staff. He stayed abreast of donor policy developments and represented CAFOD in local funding review groups and networks. He collaborated with other staff in promoting systems and standards of Program Cycle Management and contributed to capacity building of local partners on program development, proposal writing, monitoring and evaluation. He collaborated with other staff in promoting effective communication channels for information and learning and negotiated with partners on the development of proposals for the delivery of CAFOD’s strategic and program objectives. Major achievements included successfully mobilizing resources and funding which amounted to $1 million United States dollars.
Programme Funding Officer
70% of time was spent on playing a leading role in increasing funding for Progressio’s programs and advocacy work in the Southern Africa Sub-region covering Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa. Was responsible for researching new funding sources in the region and beyond, preparing specific funding bids and reports for submission to institutional donors, liaising with the London based Fundraising Team, plus other staff in the UK and the region. Responsibilities included donor relationship management, maintaining up-to date information systems, updating and implementing respective country funding strategies and ensuring that applications and reports produced were of a high standard, complying with guidelines, deadlines, contracts and other donor needs and requests. 20% of time was spent on coordinating existing grants for Progressio’s projects in the Southern Africa region and the remaining 10% was spent on budgeting and financial reporting for projects. Major achievements included developing the regional fundraising strategy and successfully securing funding for the region which amounted to $3 million United States dollars for a number of projects and programs.
Orphan Support Coordinator
Responsibilities included the support, care and development of children who were orphaned in Plan International Zimbabwe’s Mutoko program area whilst supporting their rights and protection. Responsibilities also included coordinating and administering the orphan support programme activities in accordance with the organization’s corporate policy, domain goals, principles and standards of accountability ensuring that such activities were of the highest quality and relevance to the local and national context. Edwin was also responsible for facilitating and maintaining close dialogue with sponsored families, ensuring teamwork among all departments, offices and Plan International’s partners. He facilitated the participation of children in the planning and implementation of children’s projects and identified child rights issues affecting orphans and developed strategies of addressing them. He ensured that orphan support budgets were spent in accordance with the annual approved budgets and that project records were kept and maintained as per stipulated guidelines. He ensured that gender balance was observed in programming and prepared progress reports and funding bids related to the orphan support programme. He also undertook other duties as assigned by his line manager.
