As a Transitional Switch Module (TSM) instructor I directly trained over 1000 Fleet Marines of all ranks and Military Occupational Skills in the application, installation, adjustment, operating characteristics, and employment of wire/telephone equipment and telephony. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot creatively, solve problems effectively, and make informed decisions while successfully guiding others through constant change. My typical duties included installing and interconnecting equipment, performing limited technical control of the voice/data network, and updating the data base or to ensure reliable, secure and non-secure telephone service for the user.

Communications chief, as senior communications noncommissioned officers, directly assist the cognizant communications systems officer. Even though qualified in a specific MOS such as Data communications, Radio communications or Telephone switching in the Communications Systems Occupational Field, communications chiefs must have an overall knowledge of the equipment capabilities, system integration in MAGTF, and Joint networks of all elements of communications equipment and planning. They inspect communications units to determine equipment and operational readiness; and supervise personnel installing, operating, and maintaining communication, transmission, and data communication center facilities. They also have an overall knowledge of operations, budgeting, and administration in order to establish procedures and to assist with the direction and supervision of communication functions.

Wire Chief, I directly managed the installation the Maine Corps Digital Technical Control (DTC) which provided a fully interoperable interface between deployed Marines, other Services, and Base, Camp and Station networks. I managed the multiplexing and link management segment of a Command Element communications node and the interface between transmission facilities and subscriber systems. I was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, where I managed the installation and operation of the tactical switching network. I also trained over 20 Marines as operators for the Digital Technical Control while deployed on a combat zone.Experienced with interfacing (wired, wireless, and satellite), to Defense Switched Network (DSN) Inter Switch Trunks (IST's), Switch database configuration, DSP based conferencing control who talks and who listens, Preset, Progressive and Meet-me combinations, to include very large conferences, Configuring dispatch consoles to allow direct access to stations, trunks, radios, and conferences. Console sizes range from 16 to 240 assignable keys, Troubleshooting and resolving problems; implementing solutions, Performing operations and maintenance on switching system, transmission equipment, ancillary and other related equipment and capable of Installing hardware and system upgrades and performs system reconfigurations; tests and documents systems changes. Supervise and coordinate the activities of mechanics, installers, and repairers. Exclude team or work leaders. Experienced in Installing and coordinating installation of new or modified hardware, software, and programming modules of telecommunications systems. Have the ability to assess existing facilities' needs for new or modified telecommunications systems. Also to include communicating with telecommunications vendors to obtain pricing and technical specifications for available hardware, software, or services.

I was responsible preparing a wire plan to support digital and analog communication systems. My typical duties are the preparation of circuit diagrams, line route maps, work schedules, switchboard programming and the instruction of wire personnel in wire system techniques and telephone equipment employment. Evaluated and verified interconnectivity and system integration issues, helped to reduced the productivity loss due to the steep learning curve. Managed systems configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, planning, directing upgrades, and testing to ensure optimum system functionality. Achieved a Navy Achievement Medal for performance of duties as a Systems Chief.Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment and skill of personnel. Monitor employees' work levels and review work performance. Monitor tool and part inventories and the condition and maintenance of shops to ensure adequate working conditions. Investigate accidents and injuries, and prepare reports of findings. Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as hires, promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures. Compile operational and personnel records, such as time and production records, inventory data, repair and maintenance statistics, and test results. Develop, implement, and evaluate maintenance policies and procedures. Counsel employees about work-related issues and assist employees to correct job-skill deficiencies. Examine objects, systems, or facilities, and analyze information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs. Conduct or arrange for worker training in safety, repair, and maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use.

Operated and perform organizational maintenance on Switchboard 3865 and the Central Office AN/TTC-42. Both of these switches are computer-controlled nodes for multiple voice or digital data trunks/lines. My typical duties included installing and interconnecting equipment, performing limited technical control of the voice/data network, and updating the data base or crypto keys to ensure reliable, secure telephone service for the user.Monitor emergency frequencies in order to detect distress calls and respond by dispatching emergency equipment and personnel. Communicate with receiving operators in order to exchange transmission instructions. Operate radio equipment in order to communicate with ships, aircraft, military units and other remote operations. Broadcast weather reports and warnings. Maintain station logs of messages transmitted and received for activities such as flight testing and fire locations. Conduct periodic equipment inspections and routine tests in order to ensure that operations standards are met.
