Due to the pandemic's effect on global tourism, I returned to the United States and began work as the Sales Director for Capital Solar Group; a small but dynamic start-up commercial solar company. When I joined the organization, I was responsible for the daily operation of our educational programs throughout the islands; piloting the school boat to shuttle students and teachers throughout the islands and developing educational curricula alongside indigenous educators. I was responsible for our team of international volunteer teachers: I coached and taught them about creating positive, respectful relationships within the different communities, how to best support our local teachers, and how to integrate themselves with the children. I hosted and lived with our volunteers in my off-the-grid jungle home on one of the small islands, and enjoyed the challenge of solving the unique quirks and puzzles inherent in solar arrays, electric pumps and rainwater catchment systems required in remote locations.
