• Analyzed historical data on applications, admissions and retention of graduate students from underrepresented groups at the CSE. We found that the rate of admissions was similar for cis-white male students vs minority students (both domestic and international). However, application rates were dismally lower for Black, Native American and Pacific Islanders groups than for Euro-american students. Hispanic students were applying at a much lower rate than Euro-american students, but still higher than the aforementioned groups.• Co-authored and presented a proposal for the CSE leadership to improve application rates from minority students, based on the results mentioned above. One of the proposed initiatives was approved on the spot, while others are being considered, budget approval pending.• Coordinated a graduate school orientation and recruitment event - GEM GRAD Lab - through the GEM Consortium. The event will be co-hosted by UT Enginering and Rice University.

• Set the foundation for the development of a continuous manufacturing process for a Phase III API by quantifying the effect of continuous crystallization and wet milling parameters on the API particle size distribution using microscopy and DLS. Results showed that the continuous process yielded smaller crystal size than its batch counterpart.• Designed a high throughput experiment to screen for solvent mixtures to be used in thecontinuous crystallization of acetaminophen as a model API for the process studied.

• Updated P&ID documents and standard operating procedures using management of change process in collaboration with operators and plant leadership, resulting in improved operational efficiency and better compliance with industry standards.• Improved safety by developing and supervising the painting of a series of pathways for staff to walk on, reducing the amount of transit-related near misses by up to 10%, and by identifying piping in boiler room using ANSI A13.1 compliant labels. • Validated a microbiological content test to be used in the quality control of polymer emulsions used in personal care products, resulting in a 98% reduction in testing time. • Evaluated and coordinated the upgrade of a gasket plate & frame heat exchanger to a brazed model, which would reduce maintenance requirements by up to 90%.• Evaluated and suggested materials for the revamp of a hydraulic oil reservoir used to operate a filter press. Improvements included sampling valves, new level meter and a breather with a desiccant bed.

• Developed system to track responses to a compliance-related questionnaire by preparing spreadsheet tabs for our team to specify the date of responses, their adequacy, any follow-up actions, and any additional comments. • Created a list of feeders to apply on continuous processing trials with materials that can’t be fed accurately with screw feeders, with which equipment was suggested for testing on cohesive materials that showed difficulty when using a screw feeder.• Prepared a procedure to test a new bulk packaging design that will improve the identification of API prior to their implementation in manufacturing. Improvements include a 75% reduction in testing time, elimination of risks to workers and material, and protection of material integrity.

• Improved process safety by implementing a more stable, fixed pipe and hand-controlled valves system between slurry and several finishing tanks to replace a flexible hose that had to be moved between finishing tanks• Led reorganization of warehouses using the 5S method. This reduced the risk of accidents and injuries within the warehouse, while also facilitated the access to stored materials. No incidents were recorded within the first 2 months after reorganization and warehouse capacity was doubled.• Designed and performed trials to evaluate the integration of different xanthan gums and new raw materials into products, which reduced costs of production. Reduced expected trial time by 25% by performing tests in parallel instead of sequential steps.
