I am extensively involved in writing and informing policy submissions to the Department of Health and AMA Victoria’s stance on various issues. For example, I drafted AMA Victoria’s 2023 State Budget Submission and attended the 2023 State Budget Lock-Up to discuss with the Department of Health funding for AMA Victoria’s priority issues. I also brief the Senior Policy Officer and AMA Victoria’s President on policy issues ranging from pharmacist prescribing to Victoria’s mental health workforce shortage, and provide recommendations for AMA Victoria’s stances. I also participate in meetings with Departmental representatives. I aim to use systems thinking approaches when considering policy stances in order to advise in ways that optimise the health of Victoria's whole health system.I do this work part-time alongside completing my final year of medical school.

I assisted the Senior Policy Advisor in AMA Victoria's policy and advocacy work, wrote media releases, and engaged in member communication. I completed this internship part-time alongside the second semester of my Master of Public Health.

I worked under Katie Stubley from the Griffith Centre for Systems Innovation and Marta Ceroni from the Academy for Systems Change to implement systems change tools to a project addressing the systemic determinants of health in one of Brisbane's Primary Health Networks. The project primarily targeted the optimisation of governance and investment structures within the Queensland Government, and how innovation in these structures can allow for changes that better support the work of community groups. My role was to act as a "critical friend" walking alongside the project to act as a sounding board and to help identify any blindspots. The second part of my internship comprised of identifying some key insights from the work of Donella Meadows and presenting them as synthesised systems tools to my team at GUCSI for their application in the public health project.

I advise on the “Australian Rural Clinical School Support Survey” research project and liaise with the University of Melbourne to conduct ethics approval.

I coordinate projects within the rural health division of the Australian Medical Students’ Association. Currently, I am working to create rural health-centric podcast episodes for the AMSA podcast (“Ampoule”). I am also working on a research survey of rural medical students’ clinical experiences that we hope to publish.

I am working on a policy about AMSA’s stance on “Research and Reportage”, with the aim to advocate for increased research integrity, increased research access for medical students, and increased understanding of research errors throughout our studies.

Greater Boston Area

I am undertaking a 2-month neurology/psychiatry research internship at the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging under Dr. Michael VanElzakker (who is completing his post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School). Here, I run a pilot study researching the efficacy of vagal nerve stimulation in treating PTSD, as well as learn about analysing brain scans of people with chronic fatigue syndrome (also called myalgic encephalomyelitis) for specific neurological markers that they may possess.

I rewrite scientific journal publications about Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) into a comprehensible format for the non-scientific community. These articles then get published in fortnightly newsletters distributed by Emerge Australia, a not-for-profit organisation for ME/CFS awareness and action.

I am the first port-of-call for Queen’s residents experiencing medical issues. I am responsible for assessing the situation, triaging its importance, and referring students on to medical practitioners or administering first-aid where necessary.

I tutor IB English Higher Level as part of a select group of high-achieving alumni chosen to return to the Academy under an official tutoring post. I specifically work with Year 12 students performing in the bottom 10% and the top 10% of the cohort in order to introduce targeted intervention. To date, this has helped to reduce the performance gap in IB English, traditionally one of the lower-scoring courses in QASMT.
