I assisted professor in research for his upcoming book on nationalism and political identity of indigenous communities and rural groups in the Andean region of South America during the wars of independence (1809-1825).I reviewed judicial archives, translated, and summarized cases in English, so that we could find out more about insurgents’ activities and property ownership.I analyzed former census documents and recorded accurate information of data to identify potential insurgents. We found that young indigenous males who paid tributary tax were very likely to become insurgents.
