I like a lot of things, including: brainstorming & generating new ideas, innovating, exploring, creating (magic and messes (of the artwork variety) in equal measure), helping others on their learning journeys, learning new things myself, and last - but certainly not least - dogs. I’m at my happiest when I can combine at least two of the above. Some of my favourite jobs to date have been a summer job as a hiking/wilderness guide in Alaska; working as a field archaeologist in the US Midwest (it was like Indiana Jones but with more corn fields…which by August were way taller than me!); and of course, my current role in the UCD Innovation Academy, where I work as an Entrepreneurial Specialist with a group of amazing humans.I first engaged with the Innovation Academy while a PhD student in Trinity College Dublin’s Botany Department, where I was conducting a research project on wild flamingos (yes, I do realise that flamingos are not plants). I completed the Innovation Academy’s Postgraduate Certificate course, and pretty much refused to leave – and have worked here since 2012. I teaching across a variety of modules & courses in areas including Creativity & Innovation, Social Entrepreneurship, Communicating for Impact, and more; I received a UCD Teaching & Learning Award in 2017. I have been an invited speaker at a variety of conferences and events worldwide including TED-x Osnabrück; the Falling Walls Lab conference (in Berlin) – where I won the judge’s third place prize; and at the Electric Picnic music festival in Ireland (to be clear, the latter was a speaking, not singing, engagement!).I led the formation of Biodiversity in our Lives (an initiative with a team of fellow PhD students which saw the design & creation of a series of beermats containing factoids about biodiversity; over 50,000 were distributed to pubs across Ireland). More recently, I co-founded the Wild Postcard Project, a social enterprise that aims to spread the awesomeness of local biodiversity around the world via a series of artwork competitions for kids & teens. Since launched in 2016, we have run seven competitions on four continents, receiving thousands and thousands of entries – with the winning artworks converted into postcards & made available for sale.I believe that together, we can create a better tomorrow - and I would love for anyone who is interested to join me in the journey towards making it so.

I coordinated the founding of this initiative, which aims to provide information about biodiversity with the general public in fun and engaging ways. Our pilot project was a set of four biodiversity beermats which were distributed to dozens of pubs in Dublin.
