I am a BSc graduate from the University of St Andrews, looking for a position in which I can make positive, environmental changes. Approximately 140 hours of vessel-based marine mammal observation.Collected opportunistic cetacean sightings data on the Funchal-Porto Santo ferry crossing and on a local tour boat for two months.Assisted in biopsy sampling and blow sampling of pilot whales & spotted dolphins. Worked independently, in a foreign country with no previous knowledge about the local area.
Research Intern
Approximately 170 hours of land-based marine mammal observation.Approximately 70 hours of vessel-based marine mammal observation (opportunistic data collection and dedicated line transect surveys). Engaged with the public, answering questions about our work and doing public awareness talks while collecting cetacean sightings data on local tour boats. Managed the national cetacean sightings database- communicating with members of the public that have submitted sightings to verify species ID. Gained photo identification skills, both in DSLR photography and the identification and matching process. Carried out land, boat, and line transect cetacean surveys, gaining a lot of experience in recording data in a fast-paced environment. Completed the Sea Watch Foundation training course "Surveying Whales and Dolphins".
