Through my degree I was given the opportunity to complete a 9 month work placement with Teach Tearmainn Domestic Violence Service. This experience has equipped me the knowledge and tools needed to continue to pursue a career in the family support sector. I have developed many invaluable skills working with both service users and professionals and hope to continue to hone these skills as I move into the position of relief worker. During my placement I was given the opportunity to shadow many of Teach Tearmainn’s incredible staff in refuge, outreach, court accompaniment and support and children’s support services. I also completed the safeTALK and ASSIST trainings and am a supporting facilitator of TLC KIDZ clubs run by Teach Tearmainn. I believe these experiences and opportunities have and continue to shape me into a responsible, empathetic and resourceful practitioner.

Naas, County Kildare, Ireland

Worked as a childcare practitioner primarily in the after-school group in the Naas branch of Cocoon Childcare. During my time in Cocoon I gained experience working with children to support their emotional, physical and educational needs. Communicating with parents and schools in order to support children through the transition from crèche to primary school and their learning thereafter. I worked alongside my colleagues to organise daily activities and games to keep children engaged and encourage learning through play.

Worked as a hotel receptionist and occasionally in the bar. Maintained a friendly and open environment for guests, developing my customer service, interpersonal and communication skills.
