As a Senior Technician my duties included installing, rebuilding, repairing and maintaining all manner of water and wastewater treatment equipment. I coordinated time sensitive tasks such as rotating clarifier rebuilds, influent screen refurbishments and repairs, as well as longer term jobs like a potable water treatment system design and construction. Typical daily duties included plant equipment preventative maintenance, electrical inspection and repair, mechanical equipment inspection, repairs, and installation, and pipeline installation and repair. I would also routinely perform troubleshooting of automatic valve and gate actuators, reverse osmosis treatment systems, blowers, pumps, motors, rotating trickling filters, programming of SCADA, network communications, and on-line system analytics. Would travel around the USA to certify that new equipment was installed properly for various industry-leading manufacturers.
Lead Plant Operator
The Lead Plant Operator (LPO) performs duties and assignments requiring advanced technical knowledge and skill with little supervision. As LPO, I would routinely exercise independent judgment in the interpretation of procedures and regulations, participate with and lead special projects, and provide training to entry or journey level employees. Performance and review of laboratory results of process mediums, and direction of staff to adjust plant operations to ensure all regulatory compliance with Federal and State agencies. Duties also included the advertisement and sales of Class A bio solids to the local agricultural community, and detailed record keeping. Example of Duties• Provide hands-on training for operators on new systems, equipment and safety items• Prepare and/or review procedures, programs, logs, charts and reports, using the plant SCADA and telemetry, and laboratory data. • Direct process adjustments and maintenance of a complex primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment system, to meet all National Pollution Discharge Elimination Standard (NPDES) ocean disposal requirements and Waste Discharge Permit Requirements (WDR)• Perform laboratory process controls and NPDES analyses• Assist in industrial waste inspection program
Reclamation Plant Operator Iii
Operation, maintenance and repair of all pumps, blowers, valves, screens, clarifiers, sand filters, and disinfection equipment for a 1.3 MGD reclamation facility. Sampling and laboratory analyses for compliance and process control. Manipulation of plant equipment to ensure compliance of all regulatory discharge permits while maximizing cost and operational efficiency. Daily record keeping of all maintenance, operations, process control, and laboratory data. Operation and maintenance of offsite collections system lift stations. Stand-by duty coverage including customer service issues. Project design and implementation for clarifier improvements.
Wastewater Field Technician
Operation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance on over 20 wastewater treatment facilities in central and southern California, with a focus on MBR systems. Design and construction of wastewater treatment and stormwater facilities. Typical weekly functions include CAD design, programing of PLC's (Siemens, Rockwell, Automation Direct, etc), complete electrical integration and networking of automation into pre-existing and new installations. Model and implement start-up procedures for new treatment plants. Design, construction and operation of centrifugal dewatering facility.
Wastewater Technician Ii
Operation, maintenance and repair of 5 wastewater treatment plants ranging from 0.025 MGD up to 0.5 MGD. Three of these were pilot MBR designs, the first from each of their respective manufacturers (U.S. Filter/Memcor, Kubota, and Siemens) Product redesigns by the manufacturers were driven largely by the modifications implemented by myself and my fellow operators. Maintenance and repair of municipal collections system and 3 lift stations. Maintenance and repair of 150 unit STEP sewer system. Process sampling and laboratory analyses. Independently performed a cost analysis study validating the development of ELAP certified lab onsite that would save the district almost $100K per year. Daily record keeping of data regarding plant operations, maintenance, customer service calls, laboratory results, and plant process.
Collections System Worker Ii
Maintenance and repair of over 90 miles of municipal sewerage. Operation, maintenance and repair of 6 lift stations and over 5 miles of inverted siphon. Singlehandedly developed and implemented the first cleaning and inspection schedule for the district that covered 100% of system every three years. Excavation and repair of sewer mainlines and customer laterals, both in and out of street. Maintenance of district easements. Smoke testing collection system integrity, chemical root mitigation, traffic control. Solely responsible for regulatory reporting of all collections system discharges to appropriate agencies. District witnessed a 50% reduction in reportable sewer spills during my employment. Developed extended reach (3000+ foot) wayne ball cleaning system specifically for piping inside of area golf courses that reduced damage to the greens and fairways, and also reduced cleaning time by over 60% and eliminated all damage to the course by district cleaning vehicles.
