As the current project manager of this longitudinal study begun in 1966, I lead a team of four research assistants in collecting and cleaning data to publish 14 datasets to be used to further research in understanding the impact of social environment on educational, occupational, cognitive and other health outcomes. In this role, I work to streamline processes, maximize participant retention, and ensure adherence with IRB regulations and ethical codes for social research. I utilize the different skill sets of my team members to effectively address dataset preparation and data management through Stata and Excel.

I am a TA for the sociology quantitative capstone class, assisting students in creating OLS regression models through Stata, adhering to academic conventions for data presentation and discussion, and understanding key concepts in statistics and data management.

As a member of a research team, I have worked on cleaning nearly 60 years of data on 6,000+ respondents in Excel and Stata for the longitudinal Life & Family Legacy Study, focusing on career outcomes and social determinants of cognitive ability and Alzheimer’s later in life. In this role, I administered over 80 telephone interviews using the Minnesota Cognitive Acuity Screen (MCAS) and worked to streamline processes to increase effectivity of the research team. I also maintained high participant retention through thorough contact information verification and sifting through archived records.

As a teaching assistant for Introduction to Sociology, I graded 30+ papers with a 4-day turnaround, held office hours and managed the course email and announcements to respond to student needs and questions for a class of 100, and led 3 hour-long informational sessions on concepts such as social organization, change, and processes; sociological understandings of race, gender, class, culture, etc.

To help mediate the effects of trauma following sexual assault and support victims, I volunteer as a victim advocate to accompany victims to the hospital and manage a 24-hour hotline. I completed a 40 hours of training in trauma response for sexual assault victims which included training on the legal system, reparations for victims, community resources, domestic violence, human trafficking, mental health, etc. I am on-call for 24-hour shifts every month for all of Utah Valley and run a sexual assault hotline and respond to Code R’s at hospitals.

I volunteer at Family Haven to assist the operation of a free Crisis Nursery that serves families receiving therapy, in need of respite, and experiencing emergencies to strengthen familial relationship, mitigate the effects of trauma, and prevent child abuse. In this role I have been responsible for monitoring and engaging with 5+ children at a time under the age of 12 with moderate behavioral needs, using play therapy language to manage conflict between children and correct unsafe behaviors.

As a consultant to Yapay Bolivia, I designed and arranged an evaluation of an afterschool and nutritional program serving low-income Quechua children in Sucre, Bolivia, leading focus groups and interviews as well as disseminating financial, academic, and administrative records in order to create recommendations for improvement and expansion of the program. In addition to this role I was also a member of other evaluation teams, analyzing scholarship and sponsorship programs for children and women orphaned or affected by domestic violences, a telehealth program expanding access to healthcare for women, a NICU for low-income mothers, and an interdisciplinary quinoa washer project with the Global Engineering Outreach program at BYU. I also was independently contracted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to monitor and evaluate three $200,000 donations to the Idaho Youth Ranch, the International Rescue Committee, and the Rescue Mission in Boise, Idaho.

As a member of the permanency and foster care team, I worked with children and families with long-term open DCFS cases to promote safe and permanent environments for children experiencing neglect and abuse, working towards family reunification. I synthesized critical information to write court reports, home visit logs, and notes on court hearings and team meetings that was used in court rulings. I logged and sorted a year’s worth of emails and communication between mental health care providers, caseworkers, and school administrators into the SAFE database. I also led interviews and home visits with children and families to determine child wellbeing and safety by assessing verbal and non-verbal cues and environmental indicators.
