My experience in the Child Welfare and Mental Health sector includes academic, work and personal and influences/drives me through all that I do. I started Deep Seas mid 2021 to provide a support service in the North/North East Suburbs that catered to the wellbeing and development of youth and those young at heart. Prior to this, I gained approximately 4 years experience volunteering in the not for profit sector providing 1:1 support and mentoring for children living under Guardianship as well as providing support for those experiencing food insecurity. In the past 14 months I have also been working closely in the Disability Sector, providing family support and 1:1 personal care support with a mental wellbeing focus. My time working in this sector (combined with all my other experiences) was the push I needed to create Deep Seas. During this time I was also studying my Bachelor of Social Sciences (with a double major in Politics and International Relations). I am thankful for each experience I have had - the good and the bad. Without them, I wouldn't be here today, sharing my story and working to empower others around me! Every decision, action and service I provide draws from a peer led approach, and my lived experience. This approach is a unique and distinct discipline based on sharing experiences, modelling hope, empowerment, and mutuality. Through this, I am to inform my work, and maintain a support service and advocacy for others through recovery of wellbeing and social distress. Alongsidemy ability and willingness to use my lived experience knowledge base in my role and work, I continue to develop personally and professionally. Specifically, right now, I am studying my Masters in Counselling in the hopes to provide individual and group counselling for youth and people young at heart across Australia (with an expressive twist)!While I am on LinkedIn, I would love to meet/connect/network with other like minded people and organizations that are driven to improve the mental wellbeing of the up and coming generation! We are able to offer this through 1-on-1 support work and/or wellness workshops.The difference with our service is our prominent focus on expressive outlets. For me personally, this is through my art which is available for purchase. For others, that may be sport, dance, other forms of art, narrative writing, cooking, board games, video games (or something else I haven't mentioned).
