Through shadowing an experienced site manager, allowed for the perfect opportunity to work alongside and gain experience from the role of another individual, sharing his best practice and allowing for my self-development.I was exposed to the various constituents involved during the development phase of the wind farm site, such as, the initial planning phase, selecting most optimal site locations, while respecting the surrounding environment and habitats, legal requirements and location restrictions. While on site I witnessed the civil works to include, the access road layouts being routed, site drainage, preparation of turbine foundations, construction of the main site substation, the laying of transmission lines and the importance of safety, implementing site traffic management and carrying out daily risk assessments.I also observed the erection and installation of the five 3MW turbines by the global wind energy company, Vestus, appreciating the importance of planning such a large logistical operation. This opportunity undoubtedly enhanced my understanding and knowledge of a wind farm site installation. Through observing the work carried out by the various divisions, such as, civil contractors, electricity board, power team and Vestus, allowed me to appreciate the importance of communicating with one another and the diverse setbacks that can arise.
