My experience in Knowledge and Information Management for law firms has followed an exciting and interesting path... Starting out in a central team delivering strategic projects across international law firm Osborne Clarke, I moved on to setting up one of the first ‘Business Intelligence’ teams in a UK law firm, bringing together internal and external data and information to elicit real insight for the firm in support of its strategic and BD efforts. I then went on to help design and launch the first major UK law firm outsourcing deal for business support services, as part of the management team and a member of the UK board when Osborne Clarke outsourced multiple business services functions to Alternative Legal Service provider, Integreon. As part of this I designed and launched the first shared law firm library service, a new model for a new age in information and research services.Recognising the benefits of specialist (rather than generalist) outsourced services, I moved to LAC Group to develop and grow their virtual information and research service in the UK and EMEA. Building a team of specialists across the UK, we successfully delivered a range of services from knowledge consultancy, to virtual research, to fully managed information services within several global, national and regional law firms. Knowledge Management has always been my passion and building on my consultancy experience, and an extended interim role I had been undertaking at Irwin Mitchell since January 2017, I had the exciting opportunity to join Irwin Mitchell as its new Head of Knowledge Management in August 2019. Bringing with me the best bits of my outsourcing experiences and fully supported by my excellent team at Irwin Mitchell, I am focusing on developing the Group’s core Knowledge Management Strategy. I am also contributing to a range of key strategic projects and initiatives to help deliver excellent client service and foster a culture of knowledge sharing across the business.
