Jizo is the premier Japanese restaurant in Dunedin- The differentiator with Jizo comes with their licence permitting ‘bring your own’ alcohol which I was pivotal in ensuring ongoing compliance with the legislation- I was responsible for the daily operations and provided input for the business owners on rebranding and marketing, again bringing my academic skills into the workplace- I was involved with the implementation of a solution to transition from phone based manual bookings to fully automated online booking- I was frequently the primary staff member on the floor, helping to maintain the high level of service expected from our loyal customer base

Brew Bar is a popular bar and restaurant based in the heart of Dunedin- As venue manager I had full oversight of operations and management of front of house staff- I was heavily involved in recruitment and took the lead in disciplinary actions to maintain a positive culture and team spirit in an industry known for high staff turnover- I was responsible for stock take and inventory management which included monitoring and controlling the variable expenditure- Bringing knowledge from my studies, I took the lead with promotions and supported the team with decisions on innovative product offerings proposed by our suppliers- During major events (e.g. international rugby test matches, concerts and the cruise ship season) I led the work to optimise a larger workforce and venue layout to maximise customer throughput and ultimately profitability without compromising on customer experience and service- Early in my role I undertook the License Controller Qualification and received positive feedback from the local examination board on my knowledge and experience in handling challenging situations- I took my Duty Manager responsibilities seriously and often made difficult decisions to ensure my duties of maintaining a safe and welcoming environment were undertaken.
